Announcements:
18th Oct 2007: I've Moved! I've finally got my own domain name. Now hopefully I'll work a little harder and maintain this site ;)
23rd Aug 2007: Ayttm is out :). Also just noticed that the site has been gathering dust... haven't touched it up for quite a while now. Maybe I could link up my journal feeds here or something so that I don't have to remember to write everywhere...
13th May 2007: Just noticed that phpnet was putting in some offensive ads on my site Hence, I've now moved to freehostia.com for the moment. Looks like I'll be hopping hosts for a while till I have enough money to pay for it.
10th April 2007: It seems like phpnet.us cannot afford banner-free services anymore. Due to this they have started adding banners at the bottom of every page. The ads have ruined my pages since they're no longer validated HTML 4.0.
I'll move over to a paid server as soon as I have the money for it.
16th March 2007: I've written a tooltip widget called GtkTreeViewTooltip for GtkTreeView. This was needed for the status window of Ayttm. The regular GtkTooltips widget does not fit into the scheme of things since it recognizes only widgets.
GtkTree from gtk-1.2 supported tooltips for individual rows as each row was then a widget. That is no longer the case in gtk-2.x and hence the feature regression. There is a gtktooltip widget in trunk for gtk, which is supposed to be a re-design of tooltips in gtk-2, but don't know how long we'll have to wait for that to stabilize.
GtkTreeViewTooltip gives you the ability to specify custom tips for individual rows of the GtkTreeView. Also, it looks pretty, with an icon, title and tip text like you have for the launch icons on the KDE panel.
Those who want a peek at the code or want to use it in their apps, here they are:
It's really quite basic and I'm going to try and make it prettier still, so stay tuned :)
17th January 2007: The site is now "themed". This means that I can now change the color scheme of the file within seconds. Soon I'll put up a web interface for this as well.
13th January 2007: The dot.tk guys have decided that it's time up for free bannerless domains. siddhesh.tk now opens with a 15 second ad intro AND a popup. Finally once the 15 seconds are up, the site comes up with a top banner for ads. I guess I'll have to pay now if I want a bannerless site.
Those who find this annoying may simply use siddhesh.phpnet.us instead.
7th January 2007: I am now part of the development team of Ayttm. I'm working on porting the messenger from gtk-1.2 to gtk-2.
12th November 2006: I'm back from training in Coimbatore. During my stay there I realized that my site looked really bad on lower resolutions. Hence, all elements on the site now have fixed widths. Atleast the elements will not scatter around the page in lower resolutions.
Also changed is the top caption and menu bar. It looks a bit cooler now. More changes coming up soon.
6th August 2006: Finally, a fresh new look for the website! I decided to go for a white background to improve readability. Ofcourse, my mother says it doesn't look like a website anymore. It looks like an email; don't ask why ;-)
This theme change allowed me to test the power of my CSS and it was great. Change only one file and you're through changing the colour scheme of an entire website!
30th July 2006: The site is now at http://siddhesh.phpnet.us. I changed servers to get rid of the banner ads. the only things putting me off the phpnet server are the .us domain and the low timeout threshold of the ftp server. I guess I'll have to wait till i can afford to buy an .in domain to satisfy my patriotism ;-). And yeah, some webspace too.
3rd July 2006: This site now uses DIVs instead of tables for layout! And the moment I switched to the div layout I realized just how easy it could be to control the look of the site through CSS. Also, the code looks much cleaner. Thanks to the Mumbai GLUGgers, I have understood (and mustered up some interest in) some of the basics of HTML. Now if only someone could test this on IE ;-)
2nd July 2006: All pages on this site are now validated HTML 4.01 Transitional. The stylesheet is also validated. For the interested, the stylesheet is at http://siddhesh.byethost4.com/extras/style.css.
For anyone who wants to verify the HTML, do not use siddhesh.tk as the domain name as it's simply a mask url. The actual URL is http://siddhesh.byethost4.com. My local webserver is at http://siddhesh.no-ip.info.
28th May 2006: My blog has come back to life! I share a blog with my fiancee where we ramble about anything under the sun. There was one tiny problem before though - we didn't have any time with our traineeship and studies. Now that everything has been taken care of its time to ramble on :-)
26th May, 2006: My Stand on the Reservations Issue. Better late than never I'd say.
15th April 2006: I have decided to scrap the IPC approach to getting the tray icon and the dialer to interact. It was getting messy as hell. Instead, a new bug has bit me; plugins ;-) I'll be on to it as soon as my exams end.
Also, somehow all my cvs commits and adds don't seem to reflect at all on the counters on sourceforge.net. The cvs browser updates also take much longer than the 5 hours. It's been a day now since I deleted tags on my source (experimenting on CVS ;-) ) and it's still not reflected on the CVS browser.
Lastly, congratulations to me on my new AMD64 monster :-). Here's the configuration:- AMD Athlon 64 3000+
- Gigabyte K8 Triton M/B
- 1 GB DDR400 RAM
- 80 GB SATA HDD (Seagate Barracuda)
- 17" LG Flatron E700SH
